I heard from GWR (Great Western Railway) yesterday that two extra trains are running from Westbury / Bristol to Weymouth on Saturdays this summer, staring on 10th July.   More importantly, they's coming back at times that offer good connections back to Melksham, Chippenham and Swindon which was lacking until this point.

Summer 2021 - days out by train to WEYMOUTH

Day return on any of these trains - £19.60 adult, £9.80 child
Adult tickets for groups of 3 travelling together - £12.90 each
Senior, disabled and many other railcards - £12.90 per person any day
Two together railcards - £12.90 per person at weekends only

Services / connections to Weymouth were already good, 7 days a week, for the summer.    Return journeys every day of the week had a long wait at Westbury - the last thing you would want with the children, but good if you wanted to pop down to the pub at the Bottom of Station Approach for a quick bar meal.  On Saturdays from 10th July this is fixed.

Two caveats:

Quote
The extra Westbury/Weymouth service will start from Saturday 10 July, and will run throughout the first two phases of the Bristol Rail Regeneration work which finishes on Saturday 13 August.  We are now waiting final confirmation of the timetable plan for the next phase of the Bristol work, which will take the service through to Saturday 5 September.  As soon as I have news on this I will let you know.

As always, and particularly when there are major engineering works, we recommend that customers check their journey before they travel, and book tickets in advance.  While these trains are not reservable we do have a counted places system in operation on our Weymouth route to help with social distancing.

Ah, yes, thanks.  It's faster than the norm, missing out Chetnole, Yetminster and Thornford.
