From Civil Service World:

Quote from: Civil Service World
A Department for Transport civil servant is among the contestants on the upcoming series of Love Island, having left her role as an operations lead in the department to join the show.

Sharon Gaffka will be among the contestants when the reality show returns next week, and according to the Mirror, “eyebrows were raised” when it was revealed the 25-year-old would take part.

The paper said Gaffka quit her role as an operations manager for the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) to sign up, but did not tell her former employers she would be joining the ITV2 reality show.

A source at the ministerial department said: “It was surprising to see the Love Island lineup... plenty of eyebrows were raised.

“But everyone thinks the DfT is potholes and bus stops, so it’s great to see a former colleague bringing a bit of glamour to the Department for Transport."

Next week - broadgage, TaplowGreen, bobm, and IndustryInsider do Come Dine With Me.

I'm up for that, as long as Broadgage provides a bottle of Port each!

In a vaguely related way this morning I couldn't stop myself thinking that Matt Hancock will never be employed as a train driver because he obviously doesn't understand the importance of avoiding SPADs (Signal Passed At Danger).

VickiS - In case you are wondering, SPAD stands for SPecial Advisor Dalliances in this instance.

I think SPAD is correct.  It indicated Danger to his political career and he could still be derailed.

She isn't the first Civil Servant to abandon the suit and tie (and pretty much everything else) in pursuit of an alternative career. A young clerical assistant in one of the Bristol social security offices had decided to leave to work as an exotic dancer. The office gathered for the customary short speech, card and present. For her right of reply, she performed her act. I can still see the manager's face (think Eric Morecambe, slapped with a wet kipper), among other visual memories.

And then there's Sue Tilley, who became an oil painting.
