Rather worrying - air quality on some diesel trains worse than standing by the side of the road!

"The highest level of nitrogen dioxide was on a Hitachi Class 800 train between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads".

Already well aware thanks. A lesser issue than train length/availability and facilities.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Possibly the quality of the water you're drinking. But that's water, not port.

Obviously air that is seriously contaminated is a most important issue. However I am not convinced that I am exposed to any significant health risks from the air on board trains.
