Who sold you THAT?

This campaign tip (no. 225) was published on Tuesday, 13th August 2019
I once worked in a sales environment - for a company with excellent products which fulfilled lots of requirements very well indeed - the best product for the job. Sadly, a minority of our sales team was more interested in sales commission than best placement of the product and there were occasions when an excellent product has been sold for the wrong job.

A really good friend on the engineering / hardware team - who's job it was to trae around and fix equipment when it broke - was very "politically incorrect" as it would be known these days ... had been known to ask the customer "who sold you THAT?". Heart of gold, right to wonder, but ... oh ... dear!

Message? Take a team responsibility .... and if someone is using the wrong product, note and perhaps ask questions in th team. Don't jump to conclusions about how and why it got there, and certainly not in such a way it raises a question mark with those beyond the team making a problem for your colleagues.

These pages are written by Graham Ellis of Melksham, Wiltshire. Overlapping a life in IT and IT training, with running a hotel and campaigning for improved public transport, Graham has never been quiet - though he's starting to wind down gently now. He no longer takes overnight guests and has stepped doen from the "Community Rail Officer" role which he accidentally aquired. So he now has more time to write pages such as these and to travel in the UK. He'll be delighted to speak with your group or take a look through your case or camapaign, but be alerted that his time is not limitless even now, and he still has to keep the wolf from the door.

What a difference a campaign makes!

It probably wouldn't have happened without a strong community campaign with which I have been involved. Most days through 2019 I'll be sharing a thought, an idea, a way of working or an experience.
