Do not show or suggest danger
This campaign tip (no. 34) was published on Sunday, 3rd February 2019
Don't publish / show / share a picture in your campaign that could be taken to illustrate something dangerous unless it is key to your campaign and you have thought it though very carefully indeed.
Tragically, a number of people loose their lives on the railway line each year. At inquest, most are found to be suicides - but heartbreakingly often it's people who are enjoying life, out for pleasure walking with their dogs, which stray onto the tracks and either the person, or the dog, or both, are hit by a train. Cowley Bridge in 2008. Bedwyn, May 2009., Wool, February 2012. Ainsdale, August 2014. Bentley, October 2016. Not to mention an incident at Westbury in January 2018 where "amazingly, the dog survived". It has been heartbreaking to research this list ... which makes me so angry when I see publicity that's encouraging people to use trains that ignores the dangers. Very cute to see Grommit running across the tracks of a railway, have a train come past, then run back - but it sickens me to my stomach.
Exceptionally, I present to you the picture at the top left of today's item. A person is kneeling in the middle of a bright and sniney railway track. Oh dear ... and I have only posted it because to the right I'm showing you wider picture at the same time. In this case safe - the Royal Tamar Bridge was closed to trains, and special precautions taken to allow escorted groups to walk across. Kneeling between the tracks was a good and ON THAT MORNING ONLY a safe place to photograph Mr Brunel.
