Know each volunteer's commitment and why they volunteer
This campaign tip (no. 36) was published on Tuesday, 5th February 2019
So, you're built a team of followers / supporters. What motivates them to support you? What motivates others you work with and alongside? What motivates the people who have other views - who are not in support of (or are against) your campaign?
Let me take a current example. I am arranging a survey at Melksham Station in a couple of weeks and I'm looking for at least two volunteers to be on duty together throughout the day, with volunteers replacing one another on a staggered rota so that each volunteer works with several others. Each of my pairings will have a lead person and I'm encouraging newcomers to come along and join in. At busy times, a third person may well join, but I'm not saying "the more the merrier"
Pre-written ... actually being published on the count day. 3 of us on from 06:15 until the peak services have left then two for much of the rest of the day - slight overlap at passover time. Steady as she goes. Good team of volunteers offered about 2 weeks ago at our meeting. all (bar one) have come good and gave me their availability and the schedule is blended based on who's likely to work well with who, and making sure that people are given times they've said they would like. We have a great team!
