I'm going to be something of a hypocrite here ... by all means set up your own petition if you're going to use it as a tool to demonstrate support (comments on that elsewhere, perhaps, and a tool to use very carefully) but if you're running / promoting your own campaign be very careful indeed about what else you put your name to.
I've met a lot of campaigners ... especially in the last couple of years when I've taken a more detailed look at the techniques of campaigning as a study in it's own right, and have been nominated and won national "Campianger of the Year" in the transport category. Some have very good campaigns; some are bulldozers, but commonly I don't feel I can put my name forward in support of their words.
